Emma has developed her poetry, spoken word and life experiences into 2 full-length solo autobiographical shows.
Beyond Dreams of Aberystwyth was developed in 2013. It tells the story of Emma’s father, and the revelation shortly after his death in 2009 that he had a child Emma never knew anything about. Discovering the secret took Emma on a quest – geographical, personal and creative. Beyond Dreams of Aberystwyth was supported by the Arts Council and takes form as a Show and Online Book, a blog which is readable in full on this website.
I Don’t Know What I’m Supposed To Be Doing is a new show developed in 2016. ‘I don’t know what I’m supposed to be doing’ was something Emma’s Mum said repeatedly in the early days of her dementia. Since her Mum died early in 2015 Emma found herself asking the question for herself. Emma’s Mum was a librarian and Emma is a library assistant. Especially created for libraries, this new show goes on a journey through time, mother-daughter love and re-evaluation – using poetry, theatre – and library books.
