Writing Project Day

NEXT DATE: Sat 15 February 2020

VENUE: Todmorden Community Resource Centre, Lever Street, Todmorden, OL14 5QE

COST: £45

Emma’s Writing Project Days run 4 times a year in Todmorden. The focus is a specific writing project you have in mind whether a new idea, in the early stages or already underway. It is a positive time to focus on your project with the support of Emma and others. There is review and feedback on your work, useful exercises, writing time and some one-to-one time with Emma. We look at what you have achieved to date, what your goals are, and what you want or need to do next. We look at things like structuring, planning and editing but each day is tailored to the needs of those attending. Get helpful feedback, fresh ideas and most of all motivation and a plan to take it forwards. Previous participants have gone on to publication.
Writing Project Days are for anyone who has a writing project in hand, at any stage. This could be a novel, creative non-fiction, memoir, a collection of poems, play or screenplay. Any writing form is welcome. Contact Emma if you are unsure.
The day follows a simple format. In the morning there is time for sharing your work and feedback from Emma and the group. After lunch there are some writing ideas and an exercise to do. The rest of the afternoon is devoted to writing time, plus some one-to-one time for everyone. We finish the day setting goals for going forward.
The group is no bigger than 8, a mixture of those who have attended the Day before and new people. It is always a friendly and supportive group, at all levels of writing experience.

The day does not offer the capacity for projects to be read in full. Everyone submits a 500 word/one page Project Summary beforehand. (See download below or email Emma for a Word version.) The Project Summary gives Emma key information about your project and it is a helpful exercise in itself for you – to think about your project in a concise way, where you want to go with it and where you might be stuck. The Project Summaries are shared with the group a few days beforehand. You are expected to read these – and revisit your own project – beforehand to prepare. You will have 15 minutes to talk about your project and get feedback in the morning, so it is useful to think about that too – 15 minutes isn’t long! – to get the most out of it.
The day is hard work but inspiring!
