A Day to Write

Sat 30 May 2020

A writing day retreat in Todmorden, West Yorkshire

Bring some creative writing you would like to do. This could be poetry, prose, script or creative non-fiction, a specific project or at any stage. (If you would like to write but don’t have anything specific to bring a range of writing exercises and ideas will be available as handouts and prompts. There will be no formal teaching as such.)
The Day will start with a short writing warm-up exercise to get focused. This will be followed by a short round where everyone is invited to say what they intend to do that day.
The rest of the morning and afternoon will be simple, quiet writing time. There will be no mobile phone use and internet use on laptops will be discouraged.
Emma will be available throughout the day for guidance or a bit of help. There will be handouts, books and resources on a range of topics about writing and publishing to look at. At some point during the day you will have a 10 minute tutorial with Emma for a chat about your work and any feedback or guidance.
You will have a good table space to work at in a pleasant, bright, warm space. A quiet focused atmosphere will be created in which you simply write, supported by Emma and one another’s quiet presence.
Hot drinks, healthy snacks and homemade cakes will be served through the day including vegan and gluten-free. Lunch is not provided. There will be a lunch break when you can go to nearby local shops or cafes or bring your own. There is a kettle, fridge and microwave at the venue. You can also meet with other writers then, or take a walk on the pleasant canal path nearby.
At the end of the day there will a short closing round in which everyone will be asked to say what they’ve done and any intentions going forward. That’s it! A day for focus, inspiration and motivation.

Booking essential. Please email: emmadecent@talk21.com. Deposits and payments are non-refundable. If for any reason the Day is cancelled you will be refunded in full.
